ACPS Superintendent Search

The Amherst County Public School Board is seeking a Superintendent to lead the school division in a student-centered academic program that focuses on the relationships between talented students and capable, caring teachers.

 

The mission of Amherst County Schools, Every Child, Every Day, emphasizes the development of students’ passions and abilities. 

 

  • In our culturally and economically diverse community, comprehensive approaches to learning and teaching styles are essential elements for successful Amherst County Public Schools. 
  • Candidates must meet the legal requirements to be licensed or be eligible for licensure as a Superintendent in Virginia. 
  • Central office administration and school principal leadership experience are preferred. 
  • A doctorate degree or progress toward a doctorate degree is preferred. 
  • A successful candidate will be required to live in Amherst County within one year of contract negotiations. 
  • Applications are due by midnight on April 30, 2026.

 

The tentative timeline for the Superintendent Search is as follows:

  • March 5, 2026 – School Board discussion and approval of search firm contract
  • March 9-20, 2026 – Search firm interview of local stakeholders and online survey open for public feedback
  • March 26, 2026 – Special School Board Meeting for public comments, profile development, approval of announcement posting, and application draft finalized for Superintendent search
  • March 27 – April 30, 2026 – Advertisement and acceptance of applications for Superintendent
  • May 7, 2026 – Special School Board Meeting for received Superintendent applications and development of interview questions
  • May 15, 2026 – First round of Superintendent interviews, off site
  • TBD – Second round of Superintendent interviews, off site
  • TBD – Special School Board Meeting for approval of Superintendnent and announcement
