Dr. William Wells began serving as assistant superintendent of Amherst County Public Schools in 2018.  He began his career with Amherst County Schools in 1992 serving as a volunteer assistant football coach and athletic grounds keeper. 

Dr. Wells began his teaching career in Amherst County Schools in 1993 and taught Social Studies at the Monroe Alternative School and Amherst County High School.  His administrative experience began in 2004 as an assistant principal at Amherst County High School.  He followed that experience by serving as the principal of Monelison Middle School beginning in July 2012.  In 2014 he was named principal of Amherst County High School where he served until he was appointed to his current role as assistant superintendent.

Dr. Wells earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Virginia Tech.  He completed his Masters in Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia.  He earned his Doctorate of Education in Leadership Studies from Lynchburg College.

Dr. Wells is from Madison Heights, Virginia and is a graduate of Amherst County High School.  Dr. Wells currently resides in Monroe with his wife Karen.  Dr. Wells and Karen have three adult children Lindsey, Sarah, and Matthew.
