Mr. Joshua Neighbors currently serves as Chief Student Services Officer for Amherst County Public Schools. He was hired in 2018 as the Director of Student Services and moved into his current role in 2022. Mr. Neighbors began his career in education with Bedford County Schools, and served as an Instructional Assistant, Special Education Teacher, Autism Specialist and Secondary Special Education Lead Teacher before being appointed as the Supervisor of Secondary Special Education. Mr. Neighbors is a career special educator, and passionately advocates for the needs of students with disabilities. As Chief Student Services Officer, he is charged with the supervision of IDEA, Section 504 and related programs, including the provision of appropriate services to all identified students in Amherst County aged two to twenty-one.
Mr. Neighbors earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Christopher Newport University. He completed his Masters in Special Education from Liberty University, and his Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Virginia Tech. Mr. Neighbors is currently working toward his Doctorate in Educational Leadership.
Mr. Neighbors is a native of Central Virginia, and currently resides in Bedford County with his wife, Rebecca, and three children.
