Restraint and Seclusion Training

In accordance with Virginia Code, all school personnel must receive initial training regarding the regulations, policies, and procedures governing the use of physical restraint and seclusion. Amherst County Public Schools (ACPS) will utilize online Restraint and Seclusion Training modules developed by Old Dominion University, and offered to Virginia school divisions by the Virginia Department of Education, to satisfy this regulatory requirement (8VAC20-750-100).

This training is for informational purposes only, and does not include training in the use of restraint and seclusion techniques. At no time during the training will staff be asked to use physical procedures related to restraint, nor will completion of this training require staff to utilize restraint or seclusion techniques.

The required training that will be provided includes five modules that must be viewed and a culminating quiz. The modules in total will take just under one hour to view. The quiz consists of twenty questions, and each participant will receive a certificate once the quiz is completed successfully. Individuals may take the quiz as many times as they need to in order to earn a certificate.

Each employee of ACPS must view the five modules and successfully complete the quiz. Upon completion, each employee must provide a copy of their certificate to their immediate supervisor.
