The Amherst County Public Schools Education Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing education for the students and teachers of Amherst County. The Foundationís goal is to secure resources from the community by raising awareness of the importance of education and developing partnerships with local businesses. With these resources, the Foundation enriches many classrooms by providing items not traditionally funded within the annual school budget.
In the past, the Foundation has successfully worked to improve technology in the schools by funding computer hardware and cutting-edge software. Currently, the Foundation is focusing on fulfilling individual classroom needs by providing mini-grants to deserving ACPS teachers. Twice a year, teachers submit proposals to the Foundation and are awarded up to $1,000 per grant based on the need, as well as the number of students impacted. Since 2003, the Foundation has awarded over 200 grants totaling more than $90,000. The Foundation also supports educators and students by funding innovative technology products in the classrooms, such as SMART boards and ELMO document readers.
The Foundation hosts three fundraisers throughout the year where individuals and businesses can show their support by making a donation. Sponsor a hole or enjoy a day on the course at our golf tournament in June, buy a chance to win $5000 at the Back-to-School raffle in August, or enjoy the talent of Amherst students at our fundraising luncheon in February. There are many other ways to make a contribution and help support the children of Amherst County.
